The Barbie Project

The instructions for this project were to take the proportions of a cartoon character and apply them to a celebrity. My original idea was to use a chipmunk from Alvin and the Chipmunks and Justin Beiber. However, I decided that Justin might not have a heavy enough build and would be difficult to transform. I ended up using Jason Segel from 'How I met your Mother' as he has a heavier build and a wider face.
These are the source pictures that I started with. (I found them on Google Images):

I then liquified Jason's face and made his torso 2/3 of his body as the chipmunk's sweatshirt is 2/3 of his body. I also curved and modified the legs. I think the cheeks and legs were successful. I got rid of the background because it was messy. The only part of this that I do not like is the background:

This project taught me how to observe and apply proportions using Photoshop.

Aisha

After I followed the directions on the picture, I got the following:

The only part of this picture that I would want to improve is her jawline. It's a little blurry.

Pencil Walk Cycle

This is a walk cycle animation of a pencil man that I drew and cut out. I think that this piece worked in terms of the animation. The only part of the piece that didn't work was the different colored backgrounds. I would change the background if I did this project again. Also, I would use a tripod while taking pictures to make it easier to animate. The most difficult part of this project was moving the "limbs" of the pencil man and taking photographs. The animation process on Photoshop was comparitively easier. The most important lesson I learned from this project was how to make a walk cycle.

Bell Animation

This is my first GIF animation and was done with Photoshop CS4.
I think that this piece was successful in terms of neatness and creativity as well as just understanding the process of how to animate on Photoshop. The animation of the bell worked well. I think the music notes could have moved from left to right instead of staying on the same side. I would change the musical notes and add different ones as well. The most difficult part of this project was making sure that no white space showed and the bell moved in a pendulum-like fashion. The most important lesson I learned from this piece was how to create frames from layers in Photoshop.

World on a Phone

The project below combines various pictures of moss, grass and beetles and an image of a phone.  The phone image was taken by me. My original idea was to have a phone and letter carrier pigeons flying out of it. I thought it would be ironic. Instead, I chose to create a little world on top of a phone. Landline phones can be useful at times, but usually people just use their cellphones. The idea was to create a small environment on the unused phone. The image also has a story going on; the  beetles on the are competing for the leaf.

I tried to stay away from the usual fire/water images and I think I was successful with that. The edges were a lot better than the previous projects. The phone and the grass/moss are mostly seamless. The shadows and highlights with the different textures also came out well.

Ideas for Mesh Project

Inanimate Objects:
  1. water bottle
  2. backpack
  3. computer parts:
    1. mouse
    2. keyboard
    3. computer wire
  4. chair
  5. old phone
  6. speaker
  7. shoes
  8. clock
  9. flash drive (usb)
  10. notecards
  11. pencil/pen
  12. door
  13. textbook
  14. paint tubes
  15. stapler
  16. printer
  17. tape dispenser
  18. tv
  19. toaster
Animate Objects
  1. flower
  2. leaves
  3. food?
  4. branches
  5. horse?
  6. duck
  7. birds
  8. goldfish
  9. letter carrier pigeons
  10. people
  11. grass
  12. tree roots
  13. moss
  14. turtle
  15. bat
  16. waves?
  17. stick insect
  18. pencil while writing
  19. frog
  20. hands
Ideas:
  1. old phone + letter carrier pigeons--This is my favorite idea. I think it would be ironic because using a land line today is almost viewed as communicating by letter-carrier pigeons
  2. printer+ flock of birds-This is might be fun because it plays on what people expect out of a printer. Instead of 2D, the viewer would see 3D.
  3. Phone+ moss+flowers--the idea is the same as above, but the final product would be more colorful.

Newimal #2

I wasn't that happy with the other dolpher (deer+ dolphin) newimal, so I created the one below. This one is a hummingbird + a clownfish. I was happy with the way the wings and the beak turned out. I found that I used the eraser, clone stamp and warp tools much more than others on Photoshop. Overall, it was a time consumuing and fun project:

Newimal Project

This project combined a deer and a dolphin into a new animal--a dolpher. I started out by looking at pictures of antelopes, but then moved on to deers. The initial merging of the deer head and the dolphin went well:

Making both pictures seamless was the challenging part. I think that if I put the dolphin on the deer picture, it would have been easier. On the other hand, I learned how to use the clone stamp tool more efficiently. I could have also moved the entire dolphin down, leaving more space for the antlers.
On the whole, this project was fun to brainstorm, but translating my ideas to Photoshop was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be.

Frog Tongue Remastered

This is the frog tongue image redone. I used the color selection + brush tool to cover up a mistake I made on the mouth layer and found that to be helpful.
