World on a Phone

The project below combines various pictures of moss, grass and beetles and an image of a phone.  The phone image was taken by me. My original idea was to have a phone and letter carrier pigeons flying out of it. I thought it would be ironic. Instead, I chose to create a little world on top of a phone. Landline phones can be useful at times, but usually people just use their cellphones. The idea was to create a small environment on the unused phone.The image also has a story going on; the  beetles on the are competing for the leaf.

I tried to stay away from the usual fire/water images and I think I was successful with that. The edges were a lot better than the previous projects. The phone and the grass/moss are mostly seamless. The shadows and highlights with the different textures also came out well.

Ideas:

1. old phone + letter carrier pigeons--This is my favorite idea. I think it would be ironic because using a land line today is almost viewed as communicating by letter-carrier pigeons
2. printer+ flock of birds-This is might be fun because it plays on what people expect out of a printer. Instead of 2D, the viewer would see 3D.
3. Phone+ moss+flowers--the idea is the same as above, but the final product would be more colorful.

Newimal #2

I wasn't that happy with the other dolpher (deer+ dolphin) newimal, so I created the one below. This one is a hummingbird + a clownfish. I was happy with the way the wings and the beak turned out. I found that I used the eraser, clone stamp and warp tools much more than others on Photoshop. Overall, it was a time consumuing and fun project:

Newimal Project

This project combined a deer and a dolphin into a new animal--a dolpher. I started out by looking at pictures of antelopes, but then moved on to deers. The initial merging of the deer head and the dolphin went well:

 Making both pictures seamless was the challenging part. I think that if I put the dolphin on the deer picture, it would have been easier. On the other hand, I learned how to use the clone stamp tool more efficiently. I could have also moved the entire dolphin down, leaving more space for the antlers.

On the whole, this project was fun to brainstorm, but translating my ideas to Photoshop was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be.

Frog Tongue Remastered

This is the frog tongue image redone. I used the color selection + brush tool to cover up a mistake I made on the mouth layer and found that to be helpful.
